Safe Environment
Since 2004, the Archdiocese of OKC has required all those 14 and older who wish to work around children, teens or the elderly in our parishes to be trained in Safe Environment.
This requires:
- filling out paperwork which includes three character references
- attending a training where the Code of Conduct is reviewed and an 18 minute film is viewed
- if the person is 18 or over, a background check with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is completed on line.
When these steps are completed, a person may work in our parish.
Once this is done, it does not need to be repeated but an OSBI check is done every three years on every person who is still active in our programs.
Under this plan, the Archdiocese also requires students to be trained in proper boundaries between them and adults to help all our children be safe. These classes are taught during regular RE classes in the fall.
Altar servers, RE aides, VBS and RE Summer helpers must all be Safe Environment Trained if they are 14 or older.
