Knights of Columbus
Who We Are
We are Knights, men committed to acting on our faith and helping the community. Men whose strong dedication to serving the Church is rooted in our order’s humble beginnings 129 years ago when Father Michael J. McGivney invited a few parishioners to gather in the basement of St. Mary’s in New Haven, Connecticut.
His hope was to unite men in their faith and provide for Catholic families in times of need. Guided by four principles: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism, the Knights of Columbus (K of C) has grown to more than 1.8 million members.
The K of C insurance program exceeds $80 billion dollars in force, and is rated one of the highest available. Members of the K of C are active in all areas of the Catholic church, and are fully in support of our archbishop, priests, deacons and religious of Oklahoma.
We are a family fraternal organization. We have many interesting family activities that offer friendship and fellowship to our members and our parish.
What We Do
The K of C are well known for answering the call when and where needed. Our members take an active role in community service with several members holding leadership positions within the City of Edmond and surrounding communities.
Edmond Council 11237 performs many charitable programs. Funds raised by our council help support Boy Scouts, Sister BJ’s Pantry, Birth Choice of Oklahoma, the Center of Family Love at Okarche, and many causes to assist people with learning and intellectual disabilities.
Parish youth programs sponsored by the K of C include the Regional Food Bank, Basketball Free Throw Contest, our Keep Christ in Christmas Program, religious Christmas card sales, Serving Those Who Served volunteer hours at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City and Pro-Life events. Council 11237 exceeded 9,501 hours of volunteer service, and $3,108 dollars in charitable donations to church and community in 2010. Last year, the K of C performed 70 million hours of volunteer services, and donated $154 million to charities.
We Need to Grow
We need to continue to grow and provide the level of help that is needed. If you are ready to contribute to the efforts of the K of C as we work within our parish, homes, community, and nation to create a stronger Catholic Church and family life, we are certainly interested in helping you make your decision. Council 11237 of St. Monica Parish is a very active Council, and is one of the largest in Oklahoma.
Pro-Life Our Common Cause
Members of the K of C fully support pro-life efforts. Our Catholic belief is that every life is a sacred gift from God that begins at conception and ends with natural death.
Fresh Ideas Wanted
We welcome new members and fresh ideas that contribute to our principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism in a family atmosphere. We provide unwavering support to our priests and bishops. We take a personal interest in their welfare. A man interested in becoming a K of C must be a practicing Catholic and be at least 18 years old. If you are ready to roll up your sleeves, the K of C of Edmond Council 11237 may be the right Catholic organization for you.
