2009 Mission
Trip
This year 12 of us went to Piura for 10
days in early June.
Some photos appear here.
1-5: These photos show us being welcomed by the families
supported by St. Monica and well as the village of Los
Polvorines where St. Monica built their chapel (Santa
Monica Capilla) and feeds their children breakfast.
6: Perpetual Adoration within the main church, Santisimo
Sacramento (Most Blessed Sacrament).
7-8: Hospice Center where parishioners are served before
dying. An old friend is with Deacon Lee who brought him
Communion for a couple years. Sadly, this is probably the
last visit since Manuel was rapidly deteriorating.
9-10: Orphans at Madre de Redentor (Mother of the Redeemer)
are eating ice cream donated by Steve and Debbie Yandell.
Debbie presented $8,000 from St. Monica to feed the 110
orphanes one square meal per day for a year.
11: Helen O’Connor distributing breakfast rolls to
children from two villages. Charles and Jamie Zorio support
300 children.
12: This is a normal means of transportation in rural
villages: a donkey and a cart.
12-16: Missionaries helped with Bible School in the St.
Monica Chapel. The chapel was build by St. Monica and some
parishioners helped construct it. Our parish feeds 150
children breakfast every morning.
17: One option was to take some of supported children to
the Pacific Ocean. Many had never been there before.
18: The family that Karen and Deacon Lee have supported for
nine years. It’s nice having two families!
