September 2007
The steering committee continues to look at building options that will meet the many needs of the parish for more meeting space and meet the needs of a school.  At this time, the plan is to build a multi-story permanent structure west of the parish hall.  This new structure should complement the existing campus while the church will remain the focal point of the property.  The project could be completed in 3 phases (if needed) and potential architects will be contacted in the near future to submit proposals.  The financial plan for phase 1 of the building project must be finalized as the next step in the process and will likely include a parish-wide capital campaign effort.

We are continuing with plans for the school. We are meeting with Tony Black, an architect, who is giving us some ideas for a school building. We will not be able to start a school in 2007-08. The earliest would be 2008-09.

A very informative meeting was held on September 7. The Steering Committee presented a status update of the project by summarizing the findings from their report to Parish Council and detailing building plans and expenses associated with the project. Fr. Tim outlined his vision for the future of this project and Fred Hahne presented the Parish Council's perspective. The “Compilation of Considerations” report is available on the parish website (see 8-22 below) and an abstract is available on the round table in the back of the church.

Meeting Minutes

• 6-12-06 The School Steering Committee met with Sister Catherine Powers, Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma Catholic Schools and Chris Carter, Assistant Superintendent. The meeting was overall very positive.  Sister Catherine expressed her delight with the potential of opening a school at Saint Monica. She indicated that Archbishop Beltran has been in favor of a Catholic school in Northwest Edmond since the parish’s inception. Sister Catherine has since provided budget and financial information that is critical to our planning process. She is very supportive and is available to the Committee on an on-going basis.

Later this month the Steering Committee is meeting with several personnel from the Diocese of Wichita Catholic Schools. The purpose of these meetings is to truly understand how to implement the Stewardship School model.  We hope to learn their expertise and successes.  Following that meeting we hope to have enough information to finalize a solid strategic plan for implementing the Stewardship model at St. Monica Catholic School.
